Heat alarms are responsive to heat and not affected by smoke or fumes consequently they are less likely to cause false alarms. They are ideal for kitchens and garages. Because of the potential for a slower response than smoke alarms they should only be used in a fire alarm system that includes smoke alarms.

Alkaline battery backup what is it?

When the mains supply is disconnected either from a fault or power cut, the alkaline battery kicks in to ensure the alarm keeps monitoring for fires. The alkaline battery is designed to last up to 4 years in stand-by and up to 2 years in the event of mains failure. The smoke/heat alarm indicates when the battery needs replacing.

How does a heat alarm work?

Inside the sensor chamber is sited a heat sensitive resistor. When the temperature rises the resistance of the resistor reduces and when the temperature reaches 58°C or over a signal is sent activating the alarm.

Mains linked alarms require a 230V supply, for example a light fitting. Firesafety.uk.com recommends fitting is completed by a qualified electrician.
